Clarke keen to join brother Xavier
Brilliant young Northern Territory midfielder/forward Raphael Clarke has no doubt which club he would love to be picked up by in the upcoming National AFL draft - St Kilda. The silky-skilled Clarke, the younger brother of emerging Saints star Xavier, is hoping to join his brother at Moorabbin, although he is realistic enough to know that he may not land there.

Clarke hot tip for Cats
Clarke is firming as Geelong's potential first selection, No. 7, in Saturday's national draft, meaning the attacking spark that's been missing since Ronnie Burns' prime could return to Skilled Stadium. Geelong's national recruiting manager Stephen Wells yesterday confirmed Clarke as one of the players the club was considering for that pick.

Gram's measured decision
Jason Gram's new teammates at St Kilda were quick to nickname him Humphrey in honour of his quiet manner, though the club would be confident the former Brisbane Lion will let his football do the talking . . . For now, Gram is pleased about being just two hours away from his hometown, Sale, from where he'd travel to Waverley Park with his father and support St Kilda as a youngster. He is living with an old mate from Gippsland Power, Matthew Ferguson, who was a handy guide during the Saints' training camp in London, which departed just three days after Gram signed with the club.

Union calls for changes
The AFL's new boss Andrew Demetriou has warned the 16 clubs that the AFL Players Association is on the warpath following the farcical Jade Rawlings scenario during last month's trade period. Demetriou, addressing his first meeting of the club chief executives, said the AFLPA was pushing for a rule change to prevent the 2003 trade outcome which saw Rawlings virtually forced to join the Western Bulldogs via that club's first pick in the pre-season draft.

Guerra is a new recruit and an old hand
Brent Guerra came back from St Kilda's training camp in London with many things. He returned having broken the ice with his new teammates and having worked with world champion athletes and boxers. And then there is the Achilles injury with which he returned. "I'd been over in Adelaide for four years and I just thought that it would be time for me to come back and seek my opportunities," Guerra said.
