Black may go to West
ST KILDA is ready to talk to Fremantle and West Coast over a trade for Heath Black, who wants to head West. Stephen Milne is yet to sign a new deal with the Saints, but it now appears a formality. St Kilda chief executive Brian Waldron last night said Milne was a wanted player and he hoped the goalsneak would sign before the trade period.

The Silly Season
Trading: This is the season when Roger soars high in the clouds, with a beer in one hand and his index finger tapping the keyboards while he is talking nineteen to the dozen on his mobile to his underground sources who provide him with secret information of who we will pick up and at what cost.

Eating the words of the Press
Many individuals stories and forum threads discuss our future, how many wins we will get next year, and who or what we need to plug the holes in our squad to aquire success, but I can't help thinking about where we are at the moment in respect to our recent history, especially in the new development period that follows the 'Watson blight'. I have included some quotes from various press articles that we have painfully read in the last few seasons.

Croad set for return to Hawthorn
The Age Real Footy Predict: Croad is only one of the players earmarked for returns to their original club. Heath Black may return to Fremantle, with the Dockers giving up their first choice to the Saints (pick 12) . . . Ray Hall, who was for several days the maligned offering in Richmond's bids to clinch deals for Dean Solomon and Nathan Brown, is being courted by Geelong and Sydney. Should he make his way to Geelong, the Cats are likely to agree to release Cameron Mooney to St Kilda for a third-round draft pick . . . The Saints last night agreed to trade their second-round pick to Brisbane for Lion Jason Gram.

Tradeless Tuesday, but frenzy looms
The remainder of the week is heading for a trading frenzy of mammoth proportions, with the AFL confirming that no deals had been completed on the second day of official trading. With just two-and-a-half days remaining before Friday's 2pm deadline, the clubs will be working overtime to finalise swaps.

Trade wrap
St Kilda yesterday announced its interest in Fremantle's Trent Croad, but was not confident about a deal being done to bring him to Moorabbin. Despite the Dockers' continual denials that he is not available, Croad was up for grabs on the first day of trade week. Heath Black is no certainty to leave Moorabbin.

West Coast ruckman Dean Cox
Several clubs, among them St Kilda, have shown interest in West Coast ruckman Dean Cox, who has been offered for trade. It is believed the Eagles want a player and St Kilda has Heath Black, formerly of Fremantle, wanting a return to Perth. - Height: 204cm, Weight: 101kg, Recruited From: East Perth (WA), Debut: 2001, DOB: 01Aug81 - Impressive ruckman who shouldered the ruck duties while Michael Gardiner battled hamstring problems. Acquitted himself well, winning many hitouts and providing a marking option around the ground. Robbed of the chance to play finals when he injured an ankle in round 22.

The draft camp's top 10
Kepler Bradley No 63, Ruckman, West Perth, 17 years - 198cm, 88kg
John Beveridge: "He has enormous endurance and probably plays a bit more like a 6ft 5in midfield type rather than a ruckman/key-position player at this stage. He's genuine size, finds the footy a lot and he's done quite well with West Perth in the seniors late in the season."

Daniel Motlop to quit Roos
The Kangaroos were stunned to learn yesterday that talented forward Daniel Motlop had asked to be traded to another club . . . St Kilda also spoke to McDonald yesterday about Motlop, who would be an enticing prospect for several clubs, given his age, talent and the likelihood that he would come relatively cheap, at less than $200,000.
