Robert Harvey vs Nathan Buckley
Long Kick: Harvey 8(out of 10) Buckley 9.5
Harvey: Has improved over the length of his career. A consistently good kick.
Buckley: Feature part of his game. A very good kick to a lead over 40 metres. Does average around 2 clangers a game from long kicking.
Short Kick: Harvey 9 Buckley 8
Harvey: Very good short kick, second i think this year after Wanga for short kicks. Very often this season we saw Harvey around 50-60 metres out from goal wait for an option and pinpoint a pass every time.
Buckley: Doesn't kick short very often. When he does though he usually hits the target . . .

When the Saints marched in
Half-forward Ian Cooper will never forget the instant that changed. "The (MCC) attendant opened the door to the race and told us it was time (to run out). The noise just came up the race and into the room - it is a sound which will stay with me forever," he said. To a man, every player says that the feeling of their feet not touching the ground as they ran their initial lap of the arena was also a memory that would never leave them.

Saints see value in training tour
St Kilda believes it can cover the club's investment in its 13-day training camp in London through sponsorship and revenue gathered from numerous major fundraising activities. All of the Saints' listed players, with the possible exception of teenager Brendon Goddard whose exam period clashes with the trip, will depart Melbourne with the club's coaching staff on October 27.

Flush Saints plan London camp
Coach Grant Thomas spent last week in London with his fitness and training offsider Chris Jones organising the players' training and leadership sessions with Coe, who will also take Aaron Hamill and his senior group on a tour of the British houses of parliament. The pair co-ordinated an itinerary with Thomas's close friend and Australia's respected international athletics manager Maurie Plant, which will include training sessions at Crystal Palace and Eton College as well as trips to at least two Premier League soccer clubs.

From boot camp to Bollinger - Brownlow
By last year's extravaganza at Telstra Dome, the medal as an occasion had assumed Ben Hur-like production values, involving 320 tonnes of scaffolding, 8500 square metres of carpet and 80 chefs, catering to more than 2000 invited guests. Tomorrow night, Channel Nine will take the Hollywood-isation of the Brownlow to new levels with a half-hour pre-count red-carpet "glamour spectacular", and the promise of the leading contenders being "miked up" to discuss their nerves, fears, and perhaps the smoked salmon entree with the commentary team as it all unfolds.

Three-way tie for medal
In a breathtaking final round, the pre-count favourite, Collingwood captain Nathan Buckley, Sydney's Adam Goodes and Adelaide skipper Mark Ricciuto all polled votes. The trio - all of whom were born in South Australia - ended with 22 votes each to finish in front of a distinguished group of players that included West Coast captain Ben Cousins, Hawthorn skipper and 1999 medallist Shane Crawford and 1993 medal winner Gavin Wanganeen.

Brownlow fancies 'been there, done that'
Whoever wins what is shaping as the most exciting Brownlow Medal count in history on Monday night - it's a fair bet that player will have experienced the joy of taking home the AFL's highest individual award before. Never in the game's history have so many previous winners of the Brownlow Medal been in contention to win the award again in the same season with five former winners - Gavin Wanganeen, Michael Voss, James Hird, Robert Harvey and Shane Crawford - among the top ten favourites to win the 2003 count.

Brownlow 'leak' sparks Harvey plunge
Melbourne bookmaker Norm Short said he had laid Harvey before the season. "He's no good to me. I laid him then at 80-1 for $200." Short said there could be no leak as the votes weren't opened until the count night, and that only the umpires would know who they voted for. Centrebet's Fabian Cananzi was not too bothered about the leak. "It happened last year when they said Buckley would win," he said. "We took twice as much today on Harvey as we have for the whole year."
