Grant Thomas: "I've always said that a game of football is won by your worst six players and not your best six players and I thought our worst six players were pretty damn good."

Gant Thomas: "In each of the wins we've had, they've all been games where we've been challenged late and it's gotten to within a kick in the last quarter," said coach Grant Thomas. "So I see that as a really positive sign for our leadership and also the composure of the team."
Denis Pagan: "We just couldn't bridge that gap....it was just a real arm wrestle all the way through."
» Blues push Saints all the way - Foxsports - 10May03
It was the first time since 1999 the talent-packed Saints have won three games in a row. St Kilda had much more of the ball throughout the match, but the Blues successfully closed up the play and kept the game tight.

Statsman: As supporters over the years we've been used to looking at the match ups and thinking "who will we put on so-and-so" but very soon we'll just go out there, play our game and let the opposition worry about how on earth they'll stop Harvey, Hayes, Riewoldt, Koschitzke, Ball, Clarke, Goddard, Dal Santo, etc, etc...
Goodyab: The first qtr was unbelievable, I couldn't believe the intensity or the tackling and the presence of the more experienced players and the composure of the young blokes. It was a good hard struggle and Carlton are no wimps, they have tested every club this year, we are starting to get it all together.

jonty12 (Carlton Supporter): Obviously Carlton has improved from last year, but how many games 'realistically', do you think we will win this year, and are we destined to finish in the bottom four?

From the Carlton site
Denis Pagan: "The most important principle, and you can't get away from it, is winning the ball. It doesn't matter how good you fight, I haven't seen too many blokes hurt on the football field from those sorts of things. You've just got to worry about the football, that's the most important thing."

Joffa Burns: This week looms as a must win game and a great test for GT and staff. Carlton do not possess the talent of St Kilda but Pagan is certain to have them fired up and with a game plan to minimise our ariel and skill advantages. This will provide the St Kilda box with a good tactical battle, and a good test for the coaching staff.
» Great test for GT - Saintsational Forum
marto: This game is without doubt the biggest game the side has faced in several years, because for once it's not because we are in trouble and in desperate need of a win, but because we can get ahead of the count 4-3. We will win 4 of our last 7, so there is 8 from 14, if we can pull 2 or 3 from the other 8 it would be a great season for the club. 10 wins.

statsman: Clearly we've won the games in which we've been our most efficient with our use of the ball.. No surprises there.. Overall our efficiency rating is 22.3 possessions per goal which ranks us 14th in the league..
