Round 17: St Kilda vs Sydney
Sunday 27th July - AAMI

Saint in the West - Back from walkabout
Howdie regular visitors, I have now returned to Perth for the final few games of the year. I caught the last three games in Melbourne and Cairns pubs, but alas did not have the time or means to update the pages whilst wandering around the countryside. For the WA supporters, I hope to catch up with you at Roger's hosted 'Big Screen' match next week at the 'Hydie', when we get our 4 points back from 'West Coast'. It is fantastic to see that Saints supporters are holding up the fort and are continually questioning everything 'St Kilda Saints' as is very obvious from reading Saintsational Fan Forum. - Bruce

Judd signs on the dotted line
Recruiting managers and chief executives from the eastern states can put down their chequebooks. Chris Judd has signed-on with the West Coast Eagles for a further two years. With his contract due to expire at the end of the season, the hottest property in football elected not to return to his home town, Melbourne, but will remain with West Coast until at least the end of 2005. A beaming West Coast chief executive Trevor Nisbett made the announcement at Subiaco Oval on Wednesday morning with Judd at his side.

Judd re-signs with the Eagles
"Just announced that he signed for another 2 years....so much for the rumour mill on this site that Rod Buttress had the inside running for him. Stated the only clubs in the running were Richmond & Collingwood...but he prefered to stay put." - Loriswa

Grant Thomas - More Chatter
Saints Chatroom Question: "Luke, how does Grant Thomas compare to other coaches you have had?"
Luke Penny: "The main one at the Bulldogs was Terry Wallace - Thomo gives the players a bit more licence, and gives you a lot of confidence. Terry Wallace was a good coach too, but Grant might have a tougher game plan now - long kicking and accountability."
Saints Chatroom: "Do you feel a greater sense of ownership at the Saints than the Doggies?"
Luke Penny: "On the field definitely, the players have more control and that motivates you to play better. Personally, I'm feeling a lot freer to play my game too. The players generally have a say in the direction we are heading." - Researched by Karnaby of Saintsational Fan Forum

"Let the next bout begin, shake hands and come out fighting and no hitting below the belt. - Rogerwa wishes to advise that the opinions expressed are not necessarily those of a sane, lucid, rational thinking person and contain 5% fact 10% fiction and 85% bullchyt. Medical authorities advise take as directed and if pain persists consult your physician." - Roger (Umpire)
"When you people learn that I am right, and you are wrong. except of course when I am wrong, at which point I am not wrong, but my advisers provided me with incorrect information, to which i still adhere to as correct, and have no need to apologise, even if its wrong." - Dan Warna (Diplomat)

Saint's football future in doubt
St Kilda utility player Steven Lawrence is likely to have played his last game for the Saints after an early-morning car crash yesterday. Lawrence was under observation in the Alfred Hospital's emergency department last night awaiting assessment for a minor spinal injury that could be an aggravation of an existing football injury. "They are not 100 per cent sure yet whether it is a spinal injury - he should go up to a ward tonight some time," a hospital source said. According to police, Lawrence also received minor abrasions to his head in the single-car accident. Lawrence was visited in hospital yesterday by his skipper Aaron Hamill and coach Grant Thomas and last night was receiving about 10 phone calls an hour from teammates, friends and family. He is believed to have very little recollection of the crash, which occurred in Cheltenham about 1.50am.

Lawrence OK after car crash
Brian Waldron: "He needs our support. Grant Thomas and Aaron Hamill have been to see him this morning just to assure him that he has our full support and see how he is, and he's obviously quite distressed by it all."

Sins adding up for Saint Steve
But if unofficial reports are correct, his football club may well reach zero tolerance with the former Brisbane Lion and son of St Kilda champion Barry Lawrence. Lawrence suffered only minor injuries in the crash, but blood samples taken at the Alfred Hospital yesterday morning will reveal today if he was under the influence of alcohol. It is alleged the Saint defender had been drinking, was talking on his mobile phone when he crashed and left the scene of the accident. It is believed he later told police he was hit by a car while walking down the road.
