Saints' Richardson options fade to Blake
Who gets Richo? That is the obvious poser ahead of today's St Kilda-Richmond clash, but the answer is not so clear-cut. Right man for the job: Saint Jason Blake has probably drawn the short straw to take on Tigers forward Matthew Richardson, who grapples with Docker Shane Parker earlier this year. With six regulars 190cm or taller out of the St Kilda side, it has to be a field of five - Jason Blake, Sam Fisher, Brendon Goddard, Matthew Ferguson and Brett Voss. Fisher and Ferguson are still kids, Goddard's low on confidence and Brett Voss - even though he plays tall - is just 181cm. Come on down, Jason Blake. It has to be you.

BUTTERSS INTERVIEW
Guttersnipes drag St Kilda's name through mud
MR: It's been an extraordinary year for you guys, with all the allegations off-field. The recent stuff at Sorrento, it really got to you, didn't it?
RB: It absolutely got up my nose. There's been a phenomenon occur in Melbourne in the past 20 years and it's called talkback radio. It gives people without any consciousness of the facts the chance to get on radio and blurt absolute rubbish without any accountability and without scrutiny. I'm fed up, particularly with 3AW, which just lives on rumour-mongering without any adherence to a fact or a detail and it's unfair and it's unprofessional. And if they keep it up, we're going to have to do something, maybe have to urge the AFL to put some standards in place because some of these people are operating from the gutter. It's not fair to drag the names of very good people like, well, I won't name names, but some of our players who do enormous amounts of community work in schools, at clinics and in hospitals.

THEMS FIGHING WORDS
G-train or caboose?
Who and what is the real Grant Thomas? I suspect few know. Perhaps the man himself is not sure. Is he coach, mentor, manager or manipulator? Maybe he is all. Can he coach? I don't know. Can he organise people to make them feel good and follow his lead? I suspect so. Does he weed out those who confront and challenge his ways? Again, I suspect so . . . Now, there are few at Moorabbin who would stand up to Thomas. Most are kids enjoying the early ride of AFL. Aaron Hamill is happy. He gets paid and feted beyond his wildest dreams. Robert Harvey is insular, concerned with extending his career as long as he can. Lenny Hayes is chuffed by the captaincy. Riewoldt's life is made up of bright lights, big bucks and a captaincy to come. "Aussie" Jones is busily rebuilding what looked like a lost career. In many ways, Gehrig stands alone. I will watch with great interest to see if he will be standing in the goal square for St Kilda next season.
